Maths

At KS2, KS3 and KS4 our maths …

At KS2, the principal focus of our mathematics teaching is to ensure that pupils extend their understanding of the number system and place value to include larger integers.

We develop the connections that pupils make between multiplication and division with fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio and develop their ability to solve a wider range of problems, including increasingly complex properties of numbers and arithmetic, and problems demanding efficient written and mental methods of calculation.

With this foundation in arithmetic, pupils are introduced to the language of algebra as a means for solving a variety of problems. Teaching in geometry and measures consolidates and extends knowledge developed in number and also ensures that pupils can classify shapes with increasingly complex geometric properties and that they learn the vocabulary they need to describe them.

Our maths course at KS3 level is designed to prepare students for their GCSE exams across all core areas of the subject.  With a focus on algebra and statistics that now form a significant element of the reformed GCSE; this course can help students who have struggled with their school attendance in the past to regain their confidence in their mathematical abilities.

Student enrolment on the KS4 Maths course will see them able to strengthen their base knowledge of the subject across all the GCSE topic areas, practice their functional skills and begin to explore and achieve vital skills that they will be able to apply to their future learning and beyond.
